I met Amy over 10 years ago while working on the teacher appreciation PTO committee at Eads. Both of us being working moms never kept us from making sure that the amazing teachers and staff with our kiddos each day knew how special they were and their hard work and dedication was seen by us parents. As I got to know her better, I learned that we were both parents of exceptional learners and we got to discuss those aspects of IEPs, team meetings, and advocating for our kids and their needs.
Being a healthcare professional myself, I can also see a direct line to how her role as the Director of Operations for surgery centers can translate to the knowledge needed to be a highly contributing member of the Munster School Board. The moving parts may have different names, but they both have so many similarities. Swap a nurse for a teacher, a patient for a student, budgets, regulatory agencies and their rules and the considerations you have to make to manage either align.

About Amy Sinder
Hello, I'm Amy Sinder and I am honored to be a candidate for the School Board of the School Town of Munster. As a director of operations and an involved Munster mom, I am passionate about continuous improvement in our schools. I will draw on my experience serving on the board of a public university as well as my experience in education (and healthcare) lobbying to add value to our school board. Our schools have a great reputation, and we need to continue to grow and change in order to maintain excellence. Special education resources focused on our exceptional learners is a priority of mine as well. Our children have different strengths and challenges and our schools need the tools to support a variety of needs. As a community, we must invest in public education to ensure that our students, teachers, and support staff receive the best possible resources and opportunities.

She will empower the superintendent and administrators to manage our schools, provide effective resources for our teachers and enable our students to thrive.
Promote innovative education
Successful public schools recognize the strengths, weaknesses, gifts and assets that each student has. Amy will work to identify gaps in subgroups of students which lead to lost opportunities. She will help our school community members understand that we value them and they belong. We have many excellent resources in our community and Amy will continue to encourage open communication and involvement of our community members.
Support exceptional learning program
Using best practices and evidence-based strategies, Amy will support our teachers in creating a fair and even playing field for exceptional learners. Partnering with the families of our students to develop goals and plans for success is a key component.
